Research Scientist/Post-doctoral Scientist

Working as part of the Nidovirus-cell interactions (Coronavirus Cellular Biology) and Mosquito Immunology Groups, the successful candidate will conduct exciting and timely research on host cell responses to emerging zoonotic viruses. Specifically, the successful candidate will research host cell responses to virus infection and virus escape mechanisms of emerging coronaviruses and the zoonotic, mosquito-transmitted bunyavirus Rift Valley fever virus. Using a broad variety of virology, cell culture, molecular and biochemical techniques the post holder will identify and characterise signaling pathways, host and viral proteins that determine viral replication and pathogenesis in human, livestock, bat and insect hosts. They will also take on administrative and laboratory management duties in line with their career stage.

The successful applicant will report to the Head of the Nidovirus-cell interactions (Coronavirus Cellular Biology) Group and as a maternity cover post for the Head of the Mosquito Immunology Group will be required to work independently and to communicate very effectively between teams.
