Research Associate/Fellow in One Virology
An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join the One Virology group of the Wolfson Centre for Global Virus Research (WCGVR) at the University of Nottingham's Sutton Bonington campus. This post is funded by the Horserace Betting Levy Board to develop a safe and effective vaccine against African horse sickness virus (AHSV), a debilitating and lethal viral infection of horses. The project will use plant expression technology to generate virus-like particle vaccines to provide safe and effective single serotype vaccines that can be rapidly and cheaply produced in the face of an outbreak or formulated to provide protection against multiple serotypes.
The successful applicant will clone constructs to express viral proteins in plants. They will assess the extent of cross-reactivity between antibodies raised to each of the nine serotypes using the technique of antigenic cartography. Finally, they will measure antibody and T-cell responses to a candidate vaccine. They will also contribute to writing research papers and new grants to support continued research within the WCGVR.
