Senior Bioprocess Development Scientist
The Veterinary Vaccine Manufacturing and Innovation Centre (Vet-VMIC) at The Pirbright Institute (Pirbright) has been recently established to help meet an unmet global need for livestock vaccines with a focus on priority diseases for Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Vet-VMIC offers an exciting opportunity to bridge the translational gap between research and bringing a product to market, developing expertise in process development, manufacturing, quality management and an overview of the product development pathway.
The initial focus of the advertised position is to develop veterinary vaccine manufacturing processes for novel veterinary vaccines (including viral vectored vaccines). The selected candidate will be supervised by the Vet-VMIC Process Development and Facility Lead and will be expected to support additional research and development (R&D) activities of Vet-VMIC, working flexibly across projects in the Vet-VMIC depending on project demands, providing a unique opportunity to develop new scientific and technical skills on a range of projects and vaccine platforms and engage with collaborators and industry. This role also offers the opportunity to participate in establishing a new pilot plant facility as part of the Vet-VMIC.
Main duties and responsibility
The initial focus for the role will be working on the development of a suitable vaccine manufacturing processes for viral vectored vaccines. This will involve mammalian and bacterial cell process development, scale-up of bioreactor processes, and associated downstream processing. The work will incorporate methods, quality assurance, good laboratory practices (GLP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP) aligned with industry.
