Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The Moredun Group is seeking a full time postdoctoral research scientist to join the Vaccines and Diagnostics Department at its Moredun Research Institute. This is an exciting opportunity to join an interdisciplinary collaborative EU project (Horizon Europe) involving a European consortium of 30 partners (Cure4Aqua: Curing EU aquaculture by co-creating health and welfare innovations): Developing vaccines and diagnostics for European aquaculture. The overall goal of Cure4Aqua is to contribute to the transformation of the European aquaculture industry, improving (aquatic) animal health and welfare and supporting the environmentally friendly, inclusive, safe and healthy production of seafood.

You will be a highly motivated individual with appropriate laboratory experience, the ability to work independently and excellent communication skills. This position offers excellent opportunities for career development and skills training, as well as collaborative opportunities with several European partners. The person in this position will be expected to play a role in supporting Institute infrastructure initiatives.

Experience required
The successful applicant will have:

  • A PhD in an area relevant to this role, preferably with postdoctoral experience
  • A proven record of technical laboratory skills, particularly molecular biological skills (e.g qPCR, NA isolation, sequencing, and recombinant protein production
  • Proven ability to develop methods/ new procedures and to analyse and interpret results
  • A good record of publications and presentation at conferences
  • The ability to show initiative and keep up with new developments/techniques relevant to the work
  • Willingness to travel to project meetings, visit collaborator’s laboratories, and collect samples


Experience on one or more of the following will be an advantage

  • Fish virology
  • Cell culture
  • Reverse vaccinology
  • Proteomics

The provisional start date is 01st April 2023, but this may be flexible, with interviews planned for the week commencing 27th February 2023.
