Technician - Rearing Development

Purpose of the Job 

Oxitech is seeking a highly motivated Technician to join their Development team, to aid the advancement of large-scale tick rearing to support our self-limiting technology.  

As a technician you will work with their tick rearing team, supporting experiments and colony maintenance. All activities must be completed according to standard operating procedures and pre-defined performance requirements. 

Responsibilities 

• Working with scientists to run experiments according to specified protocols, to develop and test rearing equipment and processes; 
• Preparing and maintaining laboratory consumables and equipment; 
• Collecting data, recording and data entry; 
• Assisting with maintaining up-to-date health and safety records; 
• Training staff as required in line with training records; 
• Collaborating across teams e.g. sharing knowledge, lab space, equipment, and consumables; 
• Stock-taking and ordering; 
• Cleaning insectary areas and washing up equipment; 
• Writing and updating SOPs and risk assessments; 
• Providing occasional weekend support as part of a rota within the R&D team. 

Skills, Experience, and Education Requirements 

• Educated to A-level or equivalent experience; 
• Experience of working in a biological sciences laboratory is strongly preferred, with insect or arachnid rearing expertise desirable; 
• Decisive and assertive with a driven and proactive approach; 
• Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility, thriving and resilient in an environment of change and ambiguity; 
• Demonstrate integrity through consistency of actions, values, expectations, and outcomes; 
• Robust to feedback, showing self-awareness of strengths and areas for improvement; 
• Must be diligent and organised, with data recording abilities and attention to detail; 
• Good written English and oral communication skills; 
• Competent in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
