Celebrating Women in Veterinary Vaccinology on International Day of Women & Girls in Science
February 11th marked the International Day of Women & Girls in Science – a day to honour and recognise the significant contributions of women in the field of science.
At the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN), we took this opportunity to spotlight some of the remarkable women researchers funded by our network:
IVVN Fellowship Recipients
Dr Angela Makumi - Surveying Salmonella antigens for use in a bacteriophage-based vaccine enabling homologous and heterologous protection and colonization-inhibition effect in poultry
Dr Mercy Akinyi - Identification and characterization of circulating coronaviruses and host receptor diversity in non-human primates
IVVN Pump-Priming Grant Funding Recipients
Dr Caroline Wasonga - Isolation and purification of Nairobi sheep disease virus for development of a thermostable vaccine
Dr Elise Schieck - Identification of virulence factors as novel vaccine targets for contagious bovine pleuropneumonia by whole genome saturated mutagenesis
Dr Kate Sutton – Towards edible vaccines for chickens
Dr Mariatulqabtiah Abdul Razak - Immunogenicity study of matrix 2 ectodomain proteins displayed on nodavirus-like particles as a universal avian influenza virus vaccine for chickens
During the video, these scientists introduce themselves, share insights into their research areas, recount their journeys and milestones, and offer valuable advice to fellow women in science.
Watch the video and join us in celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in veterinary science on this important day.
As we celebrate the International Day of Women & Girls in Science, the IVVN extends thanks to these exceptional women researchers for sharing their stories. Their resilience and passion inspire us all, and we eagerly anticipate a future where more women continue to make waves in veterinary vaccinology. Happy International Day of Women & Girls in Science!
