#IVVNConference2024: A Preview of the Theme ‘Innovative Vaccination for the Sustainability and Resilience of Aquaculture’
The International Veterinary Vaccinology Network Conference 2024 is set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 9 & 10 November.
One of the key themes of the conference is 'Innovative Vaccination for the Sustainability and Resilience of Aquaculture'. We are honored to have Dr Thao Phuong Huynh Ngo, Head of the Aquacultural Biotechnology Division at the Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as the chair of the theme.
Speaking about the significance of aquaculture in Southeast Asia, Dr Ngo said, “Aquaculture has seen a rapid increase in Southeast Asia, serving as a significant protein source for the region's populace. However, the intensive farming methods employed have led to the emergence and resurgence of diseases, posing a serious threat to the aquaculture industry. Vaccination has emerged as a vital tool in disease control and prevention within this sector. Despite its importance, the number of registered vaccines for key species such as tilapia, striped catfish, and Asian seabass in Southeast Asia lags behind those available for salmonids in regions like the USA, Europe, and Latin America.”
The aim of the conference is to facilitate the exchange of innovative research findings on aquaculture vaccines and foster global collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders. The conference will serve as a unique platform for exploring state-of-the-art research on optimised vaccine formulations and immunisation techniques tailored for aquaculture use, emphasising the crucial role of aquatic vaccines in safeguarding the health and productivity of aquatic organisms.
