Mirende is a holder of PhD on Inter-Epizootic/Epidemic Rift Valley Fever Virus in domestic ruminants and rodents. Mirende attended a Borlaug fellowship at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where he learned different cell culture techniques. He has established a biosafety level 2 cell culture laboratory and animal biosafety level 2 insect proof barn. With Novel Vaccines and Biological Company Limited, Mirende intends to construct a vaccine manufacturing facility in Morogoro Tanzania. One of the vaccines to be manufactured is a newly discovered combined thermostable vaccine against Newcastle disease, Fowl pox and Infectious coryza. Mirende has established a number of collaborative networks both within Tanzania and abroad. Together with scientists from UTEP, we are testing the DIVA capability of MP-12-NSm-del vaccine for Rift Valley Fever Virus. My main research interest is on development, testing, training and consultancy on livestock vaccines.
