Biography
Dr. Alejandra Victoria Capozzo is a Principal Researcher at the Argentinean National Research Council "CONICET". Concurrently, she is the Director of the Centre for Health Sciences (CAECIHS) at the Interamerican Open University (UAI) in Buenos Aires. Dr. Capozzo has been working on Applied Veterinary Immunology, mostly focussed on Foot-and-Mouth disease for more than 25 years, in the academy and private sector, focused on vaccine production and diagnostics. She was the Head of the Applied Veterinary Immunology Laboratory at the National Institute of Technology (INTA), from 2011 to 2024, and at the Centre for Animal Virology (CEVAN) from 2008 to 2011
. Dr. Capozzo also holds the position of President of the Argentinean Association of Veterinary Immunology (VIC), President of the Veterinary Immunology Committee of the International Union of Immunology Societies (IUIS), CEO of the Global Foot-and-Mouth Disease Research Alliance (GFRA) and co-chair of the FMD-Global Coordination Committee of the GF-TADs (WOAH and FAO)
With a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, complemented by a postdoctoral degree in Neonatal Immunology from the University of Maryland (Baltimore, USA), Dr. Capozzo has extensive expertise in developing novel vaccines for neonates in the presence of maternal immunity. Additionally, she completed a residency in Immunology at the National Academy of Medicine in Buenos Aires, focusing on vaccinology and diagnostics.
Dr. Capozzo has contributed significantly to academia as a professor of Immunology at the School of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, and as an instructor of Immunochemistry and Microbiology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. They have also served as an Associate Professor of Genetic Engineering at the School of Medicine.
Dr. Capozzo published over fifty research papers in international refereed journals, directed twelve PhD theses in Veterinary Science, and co-authored eight books on Biology. Her group has been instrumental in developing numerous products now marketed by national and international companies, and actively participates in international scientific meetings and research networks. Dr. Capozzo was awarded the prestigious "INNOVAR 2015 Award" for their innovative contributions to applied veterinary science and INNOVAR 2022 for a new product to prevent cattle-related viral diseases.
