Biography

I am a  postdoctoral research fellow in the Biopharming Research Unit (BRU) at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. My research focus is on the production of proteins in Nicotiana benthamiana as diagnostic reagents and candidate vaccines.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Microbiology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. It was there that my love for research was unlocked during my Honours degree, which inspired me to continue on the path of post-graduate studies. Upon the completion of my MSc degree, the intriguing science behind plant-protein expression drew me to the beautiful Cape Winelands for my PhD studies. My ultimate goal is to provide a basis for affordable and effective vaccine and diagnostic reagent production in low-to-middle-income countries.

Research interests

My research interests are in the field of molecular and cell biology, specifically biopharming. I am specifically drawn to zoonotic viruses and emerging diseases.
