I have obtained a M. Sc. Degree in Biological Sciences in the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1993 and a Ph.D of the same university in 2000. My thesis work was based on the study of second messengers in the interaction between Trypanosoma cruzi and the host cell. In 2001, I have started working as a Post Doc in INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology) in a project related to the discovery of candidate antigens of Babesia bovis, a tick-borne parasite of cattle that is enzootic in Argentina. In 2004, I obtained a permanent position as a research member of the National Research Council of Argentina (CONICET). The main topics of my research include the development of candidate vaccines for bovine babesiosis, the generation of new diagnostic methods for the serological and molecular detection of tick-borne pathogens as well as molecular markers for the genotyping of these parasites. I am the supervisor of Ph.D students and postdocs belonging to CONICET and the University of Buenos Aires. Besides of my research activities, I have a position as an interim Professor of Molecular Parasitology in the Postgraduate School of the University of San Martín, Argentina. I also actively work in scientific societies and congress organizing committees and I am currently the president of the Argentinean Society of Protozoology.
