2004 - 2011: Research into vaccine development against gastrointestinal nematodes of ruminants (T. circumcincta, O. ostertagi and H. contortus), and associated local and systemic humoral and cellular immune responses. Moredun Research Institute.
2011 - 2019: Midwife. Clinical practise and clinical research. NHS Lothian.
2019 - present: Teaching Fellow at University of Edinburgh, predominantly teaching on online MSc programmes including Global Health and Infectious Diseases, and International Animal Health. Course organiser for MSc courses in Zoonotic Diseases ( basic course covering history and evolution of zoonotic diseases, classification, spillover and emergence), and Zoonotic Diseases in a Global Setting (advanced course in zoonotic disease which includes exploration of One Health, AMR, and perspectives and strategy for zoonotic disease control). Also teach on sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive and maternal health, and newborn and child health, which ties in with my other interests and areas of expertise as a midwife.
I also have an interest in the ethics of research involving human participants, and sit on both the NHS/HRA South-East Scotland Research Ethics Committee 2, and Edinburgh Medical School Research Ethics Committee.
