Biography

I am a Doctor in Biological Sciences. My PhD was about the molecular epidemiology and comparative genomics of mycobacteria. Later I studied the interaction of M. bovis with alveolar macrophages at the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs in the United Kingdom. On my return, I gained a position from CONICET working at the Institute of Agrobiotechnology and Molecular Biology where I opened a new line on Leptospirosis research. Nowadays I am responsible for Leptospira`s Lab and we cover different aspects of this zoonotic pathogen such as molecular epidemiology, comparative genomics, vaccine evaluation in animal models, and differential pathogenesis of Argentinian isolates.

Research interests

Innate immune response upon infection with different isolates

Pathogenesis of Leptospirosis in the animal model

Comparative and functional genomics of Argentinian Leptospira isolates

Projects you're working on

Characterization and evaluation of the protective capacity of outer membrane vesicles of Leptospira interrogans. Search for a vaccine candidate for Bovine leptospirosis

Identification of biomarkers for the differential diagnosis of the severe hemorrhagic pulmonary syndrome (SHPS) in Leptospirosis.
