M. Sirdar
Mohamed Sirdar is a Sub-Regional Programme Officer with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) based at the OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Southern Africa in Gaborone (Botswana). His main duties are focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) with more specific emphasis on stewardship, surveillance, reporting and monitoring. He is also the current Vice-President (Partnerships) of the Southern African Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (SASVEPM). Sirdar was previously a Senior Veterinary Researcher (Epidemiology and Training) at Onderstepoort Veterinary Research Institute, Agricultural Research Council (OVR-ARC), South Africa. Mohamed also served for 5 years as a part-time Animal Health Moderator for the International Society for Infectious Diseases-ProMED (USA).
Dr Sirdar holds an MSc and PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology from University of Pretoria (South Africa). During his PhD studies he published on novel methods for performing antigenic vaccine matching for foot-and-mouth disease. Mohamed’s research interests are trans-boundary animal diseases control, food safety and economic studies applied to public health concerns.
