Viral Vaccinology Researcher with a strong background in the prevention and control of viral infections of animals and humans. The bulk of this research activity focused on human, veterinary and zoonotic viral diseases, in particular, Ebola, COVID-19, equine viral arteritis (EAV), West Nile fever and African horse sickness (AHS).
After graduating as a veterinarian at the University of Madrid and obtaining a MSc in Pharmaceutical Microbiology I moved to the UK and joined the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket( 1994 – 2007) obtaining my PhD in virology in post before moving to the Pirbright Institute (2007-2017). Currently, I am based at the University of Cambridge (2018 - present). During this time I have conducted research on viral pathogenesis, immunology and vaccine development, focusing on equine arteritis virus, West Nile, African horse sickness (a disease for which I was designated as OIE disease expert) and lately on Ebola and COVID-19.
