Lugelo
Dr Ahmed Lugelo is a veterinary researcher working for Global Animal Health Tanzania. He earned his master’s degree in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health from the University of London. Over the past 10 years, he has been working as a Project Coordinator in several projects conducted in northern Tanzania, including Malignant Catarrhal Fever, Foot and Mouth Disease and Q-Fever. The research projects focused at understanding the epidemiology of infectious diseases at the human-wildlife-domestic animal interface with the aim of developing effective control strategies. In 2017 he received an award from the African Science partnership for Intervention Research Excellence, Afrique-One ASPIRE (AOA) to pursue a Ph.D. degree at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania.
His interests lie in the field of operational research particularly with the government agencies and local communities in developing simple, innovative solutions to tackle zoonoses affecting marginalized communities.
Currently Dr. Lugelo is working on the project “Rabies Free Tanzania” as a Project Manager. As part of his duties, he works with government and local communities to develop simple and inexpensive strategies for delivering rabies vaccinations in hard-to-reach communities.
