I am Charity Asheosla Agada, born on 11th February 1970 in Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria. I am an indigene of Nasarawa State and Married to Christopher Ujah Agada of Benue State. I am a veterinarian graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with MVPH and PhD in Veterinary Public Health from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and a Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria. I have worked with Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi) from 2005 to date.
I surveyed tuberculosis in cattle and humans in parts of Nasarawa State (2001). I had my PhD in 2015 and studied the Epidemiology and public health implications of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and non-tuberculous mycobacteria in Cattle and Humans in parts of Oyo State. We isolated Mycobacterium africanum from cheese, fresh milk of pastoral cattle and butchers, and many non-tuberculous mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium senegalense, an emerging zoonotic infectious agent.
I am passionate about the safety of food that humans consume from animals and the prevention of the transmission of zoonotic diseases to man. I have worked with butchers to create awareness about the conditions shared between humans and animals and how they can process meat and meat products to be safe and wholesome for consumption.
I am a curious, hard-working team player that is always ready to explore new things. I love reading, singing and cooking.
My research interest is zoonoses and food safety, emphasizing tuberculosis and brucellosis.
Prevalence and molecular characterization of Mycobacteria species isolated from people and animals in Internally Displaced Camps in Benue and Nasarawa States in Nigeria.
