Biography
Samuel Nsikan Akpan is a veterinary epidemiologist, early career researcher and infectious disease ecologist. He is a doctoral research fellow at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), Nigeria; and a PhD candidate at Wageningen University & Research, the Netherlands. He is a recipient multiple fellowships and awards notably: the USAID Africa Young Water and Sanitation Professionals Research Scholarship (2017); German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) doctoral research fellowship (2022); honorary fellowship of the Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD); and the 2024 DEAL Fellowship of the West Africa Institute of Public Health (WAIPH). His experience transcends veterinary clinical practice, field epidemiology, One Health project management and research, working at national, regional and international organizations. With publications in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, his career is focused on solving global health issues arising at the human-animal-environment interface. He is a member of the ACEGID One Health/Zoonotic Diseases Research and Surveillance Group.
