Mr. Birhanu Hurisa is a researcher mainly focused on vaccine development and production. For the last eight years he has been working on rabies vaccine development, ant venom production and technology transfer. Mr. Birhanu earned his MSc from Haramaya University in Biotechnology. He has a Diploma from Institute Pastuer, Paris, France, in Vaccinology and a Certificate in Advanced Vaccinology.

Mr. Birhanu Hurisa has successfully produced cell culture-based rabies vaccine for the first time in Ethiopia (Birhanu Hurisa et al./Procedia in Vaccinology 7 (2013) 2 – 7). He was a team leader for cell culture based rabies vaccine production before he is promoted to Director Position at Vaccine and Diagnostic Production Directorate in Ethiopian public Health Institute in May, 2015.  He has published more than nine original research works on internationally reputed peer reviewed journals. He has awarded RSTMH small grant in 2014. He has also received many fellowships.
