Biography

Augustino Alfred Chengula is a Lecturer of Virology and Molecular Biology at the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Parasitology and Biotechnology, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (2007) and a master’s Degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (2013) from SUA. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Virology and Molecular Biology at SUA. He is currently studying PhD at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Oslo, Norway focusing on viral diseases of fish. He is working on two viruses; Iridovirids of the family Iridoviridae (Lymphocystiviruses, Ranaviruses and Megalocytiviruse) and the deadly recent identified virus from Israel called Tilapia lake virus (TiLV) focusing on diagnostics, epidemiology and molecular characterization of viruses leading to the development of new generation control methods.
