I joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata in August 2014. Previously I was in Molecular Targeting and Biotherapeutics Lab, Sunnybrook Research Institute at University of Toronto, ON, Canada (2010-2014) as a Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Fellow. Prior to this I worked at Dept of Pathobiology, University of Guelph, ON, Canada as a post-doctoral fellow. I received my Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India in 2008. Currently, I am Associate Professor and Group Leader in the Host-Pathogen Interaction lab, Dept. of Biological Sciences, IISER Kolkata, India.
My research interest is primarily focused on understanding the mechanism of molecular components involved in host-pathogen interaction towards developing effective control measures against emerging pathogens. Considering the mucosal surfaces as the primary portal for many pathogens and possess a unique immune system that tightly controls the balance between responsiveness (immunity) and non-responsiveness (tolerance), my research group is currently studying the role of virulence repertories of emerging mucosal pathogens such as Influenza virus and Campylobacter jejuni in modulating host response and exploring their potential as future vaccine candidate.
1. Understanding molecular mechanism of Campylobacter jejuni pathogenesis
2. Developing effective prophylactic strategies against avian influenza virus
