Edward
Rybicki
I taught Molecular & General Virology at University level from 1981 to 2010, as well as postgraduate courses in centrifugation, PCR, ELISA, western blotting and bioinformatics. I was then seconded to the Research Office and to ICT Services (till the end of 2016) to help establish a Research Portal and investigate new bibliometric packages and help establish techniques for evaluating UCT and individual researcher metrics. I was on sabbatical in 2017, and returned to undergraduate teaching in 2018.
I direct a large research group specialising in production of vaccine- and diagnostic-relevant proteins and high-value protein reagents via various expression systems, but mainly in plants. I have an interest in the diversity of viruses generally, and of avian circoviruses in particular.
