Biography

Qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (RDSVS) in 2006 and after several years in mixed practices in the UK, Australia and South Africa, undertook a PhD studentship at The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh (2015-2019).  A multidisciplinary project, to establish the prevalence of East Coast Fever in cattle at the livestock / wildlife interface, in Tanzania, as well as the antigenic diversity of the causative parasite, Theileria parva.  The project involved rural field work, epidemiological data analyses, molecular laboratory work, bioinformatics, questionnaire surveys and focus group workshops.

Currently working for SEBI-Livestock as a postdoctoral researcher and scientific writer.  Involved in projects in Kenya, Ethiopia and Nigeria, trying to improve the flow of quality data and interventions to imporve livestock health and productivity and to assist the livelihoods of smallholders.

Research interests in global animal health, especially in low and middle-income country settings, epidemiology, animal health systems, public health, One Health, welfare, capacity-building, collaboration, outreach, policy and advocacy
