Biography

Born on the 19th of August 1968, I am an adult male who is Zimbabwean both by birth and descent. I am married and have four children, two of which are still minor. I am a Professor of Veterinary Microbiology in the Department of Paraclinical Veterinary Studies at the University of Zimbabwe. I have had the privilege to serve the University for an uninterrupted period of over 17 years, having joined the Department on the 1st of February 2003. A veterinarian by profession, and specialised in Veterinary Bacteriology, I have vast university teaching experience specifically in the following courses: Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology, Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostics, Infectious Diseases of Animals, Zoonoses and Food Safety and Research Methodology to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. To date, I have supervised several research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I gratefully acknowledge the University of Zimbabwe for according me an opportunity to hold several academic leadership positions including the Chairman of the Department of Paraclinical Veterinary Studies (6 years), the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science (4.5 years) and Chairman of the Faculty Curriculum Review Committee. I also served in the Committee for Development of Animal Vaccines that was jointly co-hosted by the University of Zimbabwe and the Department of Veterinary Services and set up to specifically spearhead the development of both bacterial and viral vaccines including blackleg, anthrax, newcastle disease and lumpy skin disease. I have a passion for research, especially on bacterial zoonoses, food safety, antimicrobial resistance (AMR). and emerging infectious diseases.  I have published over 50 research articles in peer-reviewed international journals. My vision is to promote and safeguard animal health, production and welfare through a sound, research-based veterinary education and training.
