Dowgier
Giulia graduated from the University of Bari, Italy, with first-class honours in Veterinary Medicine in April 2014. Her interest for infectious diseases of animals led her to start the PhD course in “Animal Health and Zoonosis” at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Bari. During her PhD she contributed to the establishment and standardisation of diagnostic tools, conducted epidemiological investigations and followed case reports on viruses circulating in carnivores. She was awarded of the Paolo Cordioli Scholarship 2016 for Young Researcher to support her thesis project about the establishment of a reverse genetics system for canine coronavirus (CCoV). Giulia joined The Pirbright Institute in February 2018 and completed her PhD with the University of Bari soon after. She is currently working in the Coronaviruses Group headed by Erica Bickerton and her research focuses on the use of synthetic biology to generate novel and effective vaccine candidates against avian infectious bronchitis virus.
