Biography

My name is Thao Thu Mai. I graduated with a Ph.D. in Veterinary Science and Technology from the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Chulalongkorn University, in Thailand in September 2022. My PhD thesis focused on developing autogenous vaccines against Tilapia lake virus (TiLV), one of the etiological agents causing the mortality up to 90% for Tilapia farming. I did the vaccine trials on Tilapia broodstock and evaluated the systemic and mucosal immune responses after vaccination and how the maternal antibody can transfer to the offspring and protect them from TiLV infection. Since August 2023, I started my career as a postdoctoral research scientist in the Aquaculture Research Group at Moredun Research Institute, Scotland, in the UK. My passion in vaccine development for aquaculture was continued with the Horizon Europe 2023 project, named Cure4Aqua, focusing on developing vaccines aganist Tenacibaculum maritimum, and producing recombinant high-efficiency antibodies against nervous necrosis virus to prevent horizontal transmission for European Sea bass.
