An opportunity is available within the Tuberculosis Research Group working with Dr Sharon Kendall.  Based on our Hertfordshire Campus, the successful candidate will work on an exciting international project titled “AdapTB” which aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms that underpin virulence and adaptation of Mycobacterium bovis in cattle”.

You will utilise whole genome Transposon Insertion Sequencing (TnSEQ) and targeted mutagenesis/CRISPRi silencing methods to identify how Mycobacterium bovis causes TB. Additionally, through collaboration with international partners, you will measure the impact of deletion/silencing key virulence factors on the immune response. The project provides an opportunity to gain training in molecular microbiology and in working with important pathogens of zoonotic relevance.

The project is funded by the BBSRC and you will work as part of an international multi-disciplinary team including leading TB researchers from Ireland (University College Dublin), France (INRAE) and Argentina (INTA) and The University of London (Birckbeck). The successful applicant will join a team of researchers and work in state-of-the art laboratories at the Centre for Emerging Endemic and Exotic diseases, The Royal Veterinary College, Hertfordshire Campus.
