The Animal Parasitic Disease Laboratory of the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville, Maryland is seeking a scientist to advance our program in coccidiosis.
The incumbent will develop and test new methodologies to understand the epidemiology of Eimeria that may provide insight on sources of infection. The incumbent will also develop and assess new vaccination strategies using low doses of Eimeria oocysts or recombinant Eimeria proteins delivered to newly hatched chicks.
The post holder will:
- Develop improved in vitro assays to assess the level of resistance by the various species of Eimeria to coccidiostats.
- Develop and evaluate the efficacy of new vaccine regimens and new vaccine candidates using novel vaccine vector systems and platforms.
- Assess the epidemiology of the population dynamics of Eimeria on poultry farms to provide needed information on vaccine and treatment strategies.
- Identify various strains on farms including potential new emerging species.
